Books & Recommended Reads on Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Living (+ More Topics to Follow)

Books on sustainability, self-development and fiction on the bookshelf of Gary Spinks
A tiny fraction of the books from my bookshelf

I’m biased. I’m a bookworm. I love reading.

If I want to know about a topic or get into a related subject in more depth, I typically turn to books.

That’s certainly the case with sustainability and related themes.

Sure, I’ll research online but there are three big issues with the internet and social media.

1. The amount of information available online is overwhelming

2. It is usually hard (and takes time) to find information that is accurate and up to date

3. Online content can be filled with bias, unverified facts, myths and misinformation.

With books, I can get an overview of a topic or different perspectives on a theme.

The facts have (probably) been checked. The background and viewpoint of the author is clear. Sources are quoted – so I can check out the veracity of facts or quotes.

(The same could probably be said of most quality newspapers, specialist magazines and podcasts, by the way).

So, if you’re interested in the issues around the environment, nature, conservation,  climate change and more...

... I’ll be sharing some book recommendations you may find interesting, entertaining and educational on selected topics.

And today, let’s start the series off around sustainable living.

This is for you if you’re interested in ways to live in a more eco-friendly way, with hard facts and practical tips to help you along the way.

Sustainable and Green Living

Nancy BirtwhistleClean and Green

This book, by a former winner of TV’s Great British Bake Off, offers 101 hints and tips for a more eco-friendly home.

Isabel LosadaThe Joyful Environmentalist

An entertaining, very human and often humorous account of ways to live with consideration of nature and planet in mind.

(There’s now a second ‘more substantial’ edition available. Could I swap my first edition for the revised version, please?)

Mike Berners-Lee – How Bad are Bananas?

A ‘rough’ guide (with some quite specific numbers) about the carbon footprint of just about everything we buy. Some of the numbers and stats may shock or surprise you. They did me.

Footnote: I’m sharing these books as recommendations to read. I’m not endorsing any one author, title or their views. Read critically.

I have a big list of books to read and am always looking for new additions to my bookshelf.

So, tell me what you think is worth reading.
